Description
The BeagleBone PocketBeagle is one of the smallest SBCSingle Board Computers with a board size of 2.2in x 1.4in. The board has 72 total breakout pads, a microSDThe microSD is a Secure Digital (SD) removable miniaturized flash memory card that is the compact version of a standard SD card and is meant to be used with smaller devices. card slot for your filesystem and OSOperating System, and a native USB connection.
The PocketBeagle is a USB key-fob computer, where you tether it to a PCPersonal Computer and access it as a USB storage drive or by a web browser on the PC. Through the USB you also have a network interface so you can SSHThe Secure Shell Protocol (SSH) is a cryptographic network protocol for operating network services securely over an unsecured network. Its most notable applications are remote login and command-line execution. into the PocketBeagle headless OS with a command-line interface.
It is possible to run a lightweight desktop environment on the PocketBeagle. For instance, you can use the Debian LXQT OS image that is available for download from the BeagleBoard Website. However, running a desktop environment on the PocketBeagle may not provide the same level of performance as a larger computer.
The PocketBeagle has the same processor performance as the BeagleBone Black, yet one third the size. The PocketBeagle features an OSD335x-SM SiPSystem-in-Package with TITexas Instruments Sitara ARM Cortex-A8 AM335x at 1GHz, PowerVR SGX530 GPU, 2x PRUProgrammable Real-time Unit 32-bit 200MHz microcontrollers, up to 1GB DDRDouble Data Rate (DDR) is a type of SDRAM memory that fetches data on both the leading edge and the falling edge of the clock signal that regulates it.3 memory, and 4KB EEPROMElectrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory.
The I/OInput/Output of the PocketBeagle has unique features compared to other SBCs, with multiple UARTUniversal Asynchronous Receiver-Transmitter, I2CInter-Integrated Circuit. Also referred to as IIC or I2C., and SPISerial Peripheral Interface, peripherals (many boards only have one of each), built in hardware PWMPulse-Width Modulations, and analog inputs.
