Description

The ADXL345 3-Axis Accelerometer MEMSMicro-Electro-Mechanical Systems is a technology that combines electronic and moving parts in microscopic devices. ICIntegrated Circuit is used to measure acceleration in the x, y, and z directions and can output the data through either an I2CInter-Integrated Circuit. Also referred to as IIC or I²C. or SPISerial Peripheral Interface (3-wire or 4-wire) digital interface, with output data rates ranging from 10Hz to 3200Hz. This accelerometer can make 13-bit measurements up to ±16g. Its high resolution (4 mg/LSBThe Least Significant Bit (LSB) in a binary number is the bit that represents the smallest place value carrying the lowest weight. It is also sometimes referred to as the low-order bit or right-most bit due to the convention in positional notation of writing less significant digits further to the right.) enables measurement of inclination changes less than 1.0°. You can set the sensitivity level to either ±2g, ±4g, ±8g or ±16g. The lower range gives more resolution for slow movements, while the higher range is for high speed tracking.

The ADXL345 also has several special sensing functions. Sensing activity and inactivity can detect the presence or lack of motion and if the acceleration on any axis exceeds a user-defined level. Tap sensing detects single and double taps for monitoring the magnitude and duration of acceleration events. Free-fall sensing detects if the device is falling. These special sensing functions generate digital alert signals on interrupt output pins.

ADXL345 has ultra low power consumption for battery applications, using only 40μA in measurement mode and 0.1μA in standby mode at 2.5V.
