Light Sensor Products

Description

Light sensors can detect and/or measure the intensity of light. They can be used to detect if your lights are left on, to determine how much sunlight your plants are getting, switch on solar lights, or to switch video cameras to night mode.

Simple light detection can be done with an inexpensive LDRLight Dependent Resistor photosensitive sensor. This is a passive component that changes its resistance with the amount of light received on the component's surface. The LDR sensor comes in modules where you can adjust a light detection threshold with an onboard potentiometer.

Photodiodes and phototransistors are components that convert light energy into electrical current. Photodiodes have a quicker response time than phototransistors, but are less sensitive to light. Compared to LDR sensors, photodiodes and phototransistors have a narrower FOV, quicker response time, and a more linear response to light intensity.

LUX sensors have a spectral response of ambient light that is close to the human eye and provide a more precise and linear measurement of light intensity. They output illuminance (lux) over a digital interface such as I2CInter-Integrated Circuit. Also referred to as IIC or I²C..
